NAVOI
Navoi city is located in the southwestern part of Uzbekistan, in the Zarafshan valley, in 360 km. southwest of Tashkent (400 km.). Navoi city is the center of Navoi region.The city was named in honor of the great Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi.
In Uzbekistan, Navoi is the youngest regional center. Today Navoi city is one of the leading industrial centers of Uzbekistan. It has Navoi Mining & Metallurgical Combinat, producing gold, JSC “Navoiazot”, specializing on production of mineral fertilizers, ammonia and artificial Nitron Fiber, electrochemical plant. In addition, Navoi has Navoi Hydropower station, the largest in Uzbekistan JSC “Kyzylkumcement” and many others industrial projects of republican importance.
Most of the exported products are cotton fiber, ammonium nitrate, chemical fiber, ammonium sulfate, orthoaminophenol. Consumer goods, calcium carbide, caustic soda, thiomochevina, sewing equipment, medical equipment, trucks and cars, buses and their spare parts, farm equipment are brought from abroad.
Foreign trade operations of regional residents were mainly carried out with Europe (33.4 percent), Asia (41.4 percent), and America (25.2 percent) of the total turnover.
The main branches of agriculture are cotton growing, grain growing; it is also engaged in horticulture, viticulture, vegetable growing, cocooning, livestock production.
