Black cumin (Nigella sativa L., Family: Ranunculacae) is an annual plant native to Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean, mainly grown in arid and semi-arid areas including the Mediterranean, Middle East, central Europe and western Asia. Black cumin is very popular in traditional medicine and industrial pharmacology, as well as in cuisine and food products as a spice.
