Small description

Dried pear - pear fruit dried in the sun or in artificial dryers. The dried pear has a light to dark brown color, a soft texture, a wrinkled surface and a sweet taste. Dried pear is used to make compotes mixed with other dried fruits, and is also processed into fruit tea. In the USSR, the production of dried pears was concentrated in the southern regions, as well as in Ukraine and the Volga region.

Household varieties are used for drying, as well as fruits of wild-growing pears, which are of little use for raw use. Dried pear of the best quality is obtained from dessert and table pear varieties. Before drying, the pear sorted by size is washed, sometimes blanched or fumigated with sulfur. Large fruits are dried cut in half or into four parts, without a core (seed chamber) and sometimes without a skin. Small fruits are dried whole.
