• Fashioned twisted yarn, consisting of a core thread wrapped around a surge (or spectacular) thread that is longer than the core thread. Lurex is an additional shiny thread in the composition of the yarn, which is a metallized film strip. In its pure form, it is never used because of its rigidity and low strength. Usually lurex is added when twisting the main fiber to get a spectacular thread with a grainy pattern. The metallic sheen of this material gives the knitted fabric a chic and mysterious shimmer.
