View (Varieties): Flannel
Small description
Flannel is made from thick threads woven in linen.
This is the simplest and at the same time very dense weaving: for this reason there are no gaps between the threads, and the fabric turns out to be heavy and thick (its weight can be up to 400 grams per meter).
A distinctive feature of flannel is the presence of a smooth uniform pile, which can be either on one side or on both.
The positive qualities of flannel are as follows:
- The material is soft to the touch and gets even softer with every wash;
- High density of weaving of threads allows to reach durability and wear resistance of a flannel;
- Flannel warms up quickly and retains heat well;
- This natural fabric does not cause allergic reactions;
- No special care is required for flannel.
When choosing a flannel, it is necessary to consider what this fabric will be used for, and depending on the purpose, it is recommended to purchase one of the following types:
- White ground flannel with a printed pattern - the best option for sewing children's underwear and clothes.
- Robe flannel is used for tailoring dressing gowns.
- As a technical material, as well as for sheets, it is better to buy a plain one-colored model.
- Rough flannel is also suitable for technical material.
- Bleached flannel is best purchased for baby underwear, clothes and diapers.
- Durable shirt flannel is used for sewing men's shirts.
