Small description
Black eye beans - original in appearance and delicate in taste beans. Rather, the Black Eye looks like a bean, but in fact it is cowpea. It has a thinner "skin" and therefore cooks faster than beans, without requiring pre-soaking. The black eye belongs to the species Vigna unguiculata. Vigna is an annual leguminous plant with a height of 60 to 300 cm. Its growth pattern and trifoliate leaves are similar to beans, but the boats of the corollas of its flowers are not twisted spirally, but are curved like the bow of a boat. The black eye is very demanding on heat, sowing takes place only after the danger of frost passes and the soil warms up. The most suitable type of soil is loamy, but it should dry well before planting, as the plant is very sensitive to excessive moisture, tolerates atmospheric drought well, but is unstable to soil.
Therefore, in the dry subtropics, its culture is possible only with irrigation. During the germination period, its seeds absorb 100-120% of water from their mass. Vigna grows well on both sandy and clay soils, tolerates high acidity.
