The Women's World Boxing Championship concluded in the city of Niš, Serbia. The Uzbekistan national team participated successfully, achieving a historic milestone by securing one silver and three bronze medals for the first time.
In the -66 kg final match, Navbahor Hamidova faced Olympic and world champion Busenaz Sürmeneli from Turkey and had to settle for the silver medal.
Despite this, she made history as the first Uzbek female boxer to reach the final of a senior world championship, according to the Olympic Committee.
The following boxers made it to the podium:
Silver Medal:
-66 kg: Navbahor Hamidova
Bronze Medals:
-48 kg: Farzona Fozilova
-50 kg: Sabina Boboqulova
-52 kg: Feruza Kazakova
The Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee congratulated the country's boxing federation, coaching staff, and female athletes on this historic achievement at the World Championship.
It is worth noting that at the 2023 World Boxing Championship held in India, Navbahor Hamidova lost in the quarterfinals to Algerian boxer Imane Khelif. However, Khelif was later disqualified due to genetic conditions, which resulted in the bronze medal being awarded to the Uzbek athlete.
