Uzbekistan and Iran plan to raise trade turnover to US\$2 billion

A delegation from the government of Uzbekistan, led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, is on an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Business meetings and negotiations are scheduled for 11-12 May as part of the visit program.
Today, on 11 May, a meeting of the government delegations was held at the Saadabad Complex in Tehran, chaired by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and the First Vice President of the host country, Mohammad Reza Aref.
It was noted that mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries is developing comprehensively, with regular and trusting contacts between the Presidents of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, playing an especially important role.
The parties emphasized that this meeting provides a favorable opportunity to identify new areas of interaction and thoroughly discussed the prospects of increasing bilateral trade turnover to US$2 billion, as set by the heads of state.
In particular, significant attention was given to further strengthening cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics. It was noted that urgent joint solutions are needed to address several long-standing unresolved issues, along with specific practical measures.
Furthermore, both parties expressed interest in expanding industrial cooperation, enhancing interregional connections, broadening collaboration in science, education, technology, and innovation, as well as elevating cooperation in tourism and cultural-humanitarian exchange to a new level.
The necessity of more active work by the relevant ministries and departments to ensure the timely implementation of agreements reached at the highest level was emphasized.
As a result of the meeting, the following documents were signed: the "Roadmap" for strengthening comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran for 2025-2027, the Protocol on the approval of the list of goods under the Preferential Trade Agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in quarantine and plant protection, and a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in halal standardization.
