Kashkadarya Watermelon Exports: 3,000 Tons Abroad

The harvest of the first fruits and vegetables of the current season has begun in Uzbekistan. Special attention is being given to the Kashkadarya region, where the collection and export of watermelons is actively underway. Even in the early stages of the season, it has become clear that demand for this melon crop in foreign markets remains high.

According to available information, around 3,000 tons of watermelons have already been exported abroad. At the same time, fresh and ripe fruits are consistently supplied to the domestic market as well, thanks to the hard work of farmers and dehqons (small-scale farmers) in Kashkadarya, particularly in the Kukdala district.

Watermelons from Kashkadarya are highly popular due to their natural sweetness, organic quality, and early ripening. A significant increase in export volumes has been made possible thanks to a well-organized system of sorting, packaging, logistics, and thorough preparation for international shipment.

The main export destinations for the watermelons are Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and the United Arab Emirates. The early ripening makes the product especially competitive in these markets.

To boost the export potential of the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, as well as regional hokimiyats (local administrations), are providing comprehensive support to entrepreneurs. In particular, assistance is being provided in logistics, veterinary and phytosanitary inspections, and preparation of necessary export documentation.

It is worth noting that in 2024, an ambitious goal was set to increase export volumes by expanding land areas for export-oriented watermelon varieties, using agricultural land more efficiently, and actively adopting modern agro-technologies. Practice shows that the efforts undertaken in Kashkadarya are already delivering tangible results.
