Uzbekistan's Foreign Trade Tops $31B in Jan–May 2025

According to the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, from January to May 2025, the country's foreign trade turnover reached $31.3 billion. This is $4.09 billion or 15.0% more compared to the same period in 2024.

Total exports amounted to $14.81 billion (an increase of 31.1%), and imports totaled $16.49 billion (an increase of 3.7%). As a result, the trade balance remained negative at -$1.67 billion.

Goods accounted for 78.1% of total exports. Among them: industrial products — 10.3%, food and live animals — 6.2%, chemicals — 5.3%, and various manufactured goods — 4.0%.

In the first five months of 2025, Uzbekistan's main export partners were: Russia (10.8%), China (5.1%), Kazakhstan (3.5%), Afghanistan (3.5%), Turkey (2.9%), France (2.7%), UAE (1.5%), Kyrgyzstan (1.4%), Tajikistan (1.4%), and Pakistan (1.1%). These countries collectively accounted for 33.8% of total exports.

From January to May, 741.0 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables were exported — 2.8% or 20.3 thousand tons more than the same period in 2024. The value of these exports reached $619.6 million (up 47.9%), making up 4.2% of total exports.

Textile exports totaled $1,055.4 million, accounting for 7.1% of total exports. This figure decreased by 18.0% compared to the previous year. The largest share included finished products (46.8%) and silk yarn products (33.3%).

Service exports amounted to $3,247.6 million, making up 21.9% of total exports and increasing by 32.2% year-on-year. Key categories included: tourism (50.2%), transport (35.2%), telecommunications, computer and IT services (8.6%), and other business services (3.3%). Insurance, pension, and financial services made up the remaining 2.8%.

Imports during January–May 2025 totaled $16.49 billion — a 3.7% increase compared to 2024. The main import categories were: machinery and transport equipment (33.6%), industrial goods (16.1%), and chemicals (12.9%).

Goods imports amounted to $14.8 billion (up $110 million), and services imports to $1.7 billion.

Uzbekistan imported goods and services from 158 countries. Two-thirds of imports came from China (28.1%), Russia (19.6%), Kazakhstan (7.7%), South Korea (4.2%), Turkey (4.1%), Germany (3.1%), and India (2.7%).

In the structure of service imports, the largest categories were: travel (tourism — 54.9%), transport services (20.3%), telecommunications and IT services (9.6%), business services (6.0%), and others (9.2%).
